David Joseph - ‘Let’s Live It Up (Nite People)” (Instrumental)
Well, here’s another classic dub mix from the people at Mango/Island Records. The label, often associated with Reggae, put out some of the best club records of the early to mid-eighties. While the legendary Larry Levan was often the engineer for their dub mixes, he’s nowhere to be found on this one. Regardless, this is one of the best. Is it Boogie? Garage? Proto-House? Probably all of the above. The tempo is a bit faster than many of the other NYC club records of the time. If a 4/4 kick was added, you’d have an early House record. The dubby keyboards and vocals are there, as well as the Boogiesh bassline. If the only track you know from David Joseph is the classic “You Can’t Hide (Your Love From Me)”, check this one out too. Great stuff.
